Helene & Milton Leave Swath of Misery

Catastrophic storms have churned through through Georgia, the Carolinas, Florida and elsewhere, with seven states declaring states of emergency. Hundreds of people have been killed and the devastation is unimaginable.

Communities across the Southeast are still assessing the damage from Helene and Milton as areas remain underwater and millions are without power. Countless people and animals are displaced. Your help is urgently needed to send emergency aid and supplies to those in need.

Greater Good Charities' team members are on the ground in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina and are distributing essential aid through the Southeast. This list of need is ever-growing, but we're currently providing the following:

  • Survival and emergency packs with essential supplies
  • Pet Food
  • Hygiene kits
  • Medication
  • Supplies for impacted beekeepers
  • Medical care for injured pets
  • Transportation for pets in shelters

Please help those affected by hurricanes and donate today.

Ocean pollution is playing an increasingly significant role in the severity of hurricanes, largely due to its contribution to warming ocean temperatures. Since hurricanes derive their strength from warm waters, this temperature rise creates the conditions for more intense storms. Moreover, the disruption of marine ecosystems, caused by chemical pollutants and plastics, weakens natural barriers such as coral reefs, leaving coastlines more vulnerable to the destructive power of storm surges and flooding.

Additionally, pollution-driven phenomena like algal blooms and dead zones disrupt ocean health, further diminishing the resilience of coastal ecosystems. While these issues don't directly fuel hurricanes, they amplify the potential damage when storms hit, as weakened ecosystems offer less protection. The interconnectedness of ocean health and hurricane activity highlights the urgent need to address pollution as a key factor in mitigating the impacts of increasingly severe storms.
