This beautiful book is close to our hearts - written by founder of Free the Oceans mom, Brooke Smith, The Keeper of Wild Words is a touching tale of a grandmother and her granddaughter exploring and cherishing the natural world.
Words, the woods, and the world illuminate this quest to save the most important pieces of our language—by saving the very things they stand for.
When Mimi finds out her favorite words—simple words, like apricot, blackberry, buttercup—are disappearing from the English language, she elects her granddaughter Brook as their Keeper. And did you know? The only way to save words is to know them.
Every purchase of the Keeper of Wild Words funds the removal of 10 pieces of plastic from the ocean.
- For any one who longs to get outside and learn more about nature and the environment.
- A loving portrait of the special relationship that grandparents have with their grandchildren.
- This book makes a wonderful gift for children and adults alike!
This is the best book I found this past year - and I am always looking for good books. The children in the Montessori preschool and I read the book and talked about which of the words in the book that we knew about. Then we began looking for other words that might be forgotten. I wrote sets of three words that came to my mind each day for them and when school ended in May, mailed sets of three words to the older children periodically. I have continued that into the new school year and we will soon read the book again, start a new cycle.
I can hardly wait to share this book with my new granddaughter that we are expecting in September.
The book is lovely to look at and hold. My best friend and I are sort of word collectors, so this was right up our alley. I got one for myself and one for her and we are both well pleased.
Very well written heartwarming adventure save our lost words
My granddaughter never received this. Email stated it was delivered and they never got it.
