All cards are made with plantable seed paper — a biodegradable eco-paper that is made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials collected from schools and businesses (no trees harmed in the making!). The cards are printed with water-based inks (~80%). The remainder of the ink is pigments, which are tested by a 3rd party lab to ensure they do not leave harmful residues in soil. The only other ingredient? Seeds!
The paper includes 7 different types of wildflowers seeds, including:
Bird's Eye - Annual
Clarkia - Annual
Black Eyed Susan - Perennial
Catchfly - Annual
Snapdragon - Annual
English Daisy - Perennial
Sweet Alyssum - Annual
The cards are sold individually.
- soak the seed paper in water overnight.
- loosen the soil (outdoor) or fill a pot with potting soil (indoor).
- remove a light layer of soil and place the seed paper.
- add the light layer of soil back over the top of the seed paper to retain moisture.
- water generously, especially for the first 4-6 weeks.
- enjoy your wildflowers!
I sent two of these cards to my grandchildren last spring. My son helped them follow the directions and plant them. They never germinated at all. They have no idea what they did wrong. They live in Portland, OR, where everything grows like crazy, so I’m assuming something must have been wrong with the seeds in the cards.
I received one from a friend “just because”, and the wild flowers were so pretty! I got my sister and mother each one for their birthdays last year. They loved them as well and showed me the wild flowers that the cards became.
Everyone I've given these cards to has been excited even before the flowers came! It's a great idea, particularly if you're on a budget, and provides lasting joy without much environmental impact (maybe even kick-back!).
Since the purchase I didn't get them. I would love to get them. Would love to send the cards to friends and family. Very sad :(
cards like this are a good idea, but I only received 1 card, not a box of cards.
